The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) is a bursary scheme catering to South African students from poor and working-class backgrounds. The bursary scheme aims to ensure that lack of financial resources does not prevent students from obtaining their academic goals.
Many students around the country want to know when Nsfas applications for the 2023 academic year will open. However, Nsfas have not yet provided this information and called on students to monitor their social media pages as the announcement is imminent.

A Nsfas bursary covers a student’s tuition fees and provides them with an accommodation allowance. It will also provide students with allowances for textbooks, meals and transport and will a. To qualify for a Nsfas bursary, students must be South African citizens. They will also need to be registered at any public university for the 2022 academic year.
Students may not have a combined household income of more than R350,000 per annum. Students living with disabilities are allowed to have a household income of up to R600,000 per annum.
Beneficiaries of government grants distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will automatically qualify based on their financial eligibility.
