The Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) has shut down a school in Pretoria after their space was deemed inadequate for the number of students they had. While conducting an inspection blitz, DEL officials noticed learners peering out of the second-story window.
The Purpose Finder Academy was immediately served with a prohibition notice by the DEL’s inspectors. The school is housed at Testimony House on the corner of Edmund Street and Du Toit Street in Pretoria.
“In accordance with Section 30 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Department of Employment and Labour's Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) unit had to force the closure of a combined school in the Pretoria Central Business District with immediate effect as of today, 29 September 2022,” said the department.
The school will be prohibited from operating until they address the issues stipulated by the DEL.
The labour department is also embarking on a working campaign in Limpopo to make services more accessible to members of the public. The "taking services to the people" in the Vhembe district will conclude on Friday 30 September 2022.

Some of the services being provided include assisting clients with Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) applications, checking UIF application status, approving applications and paying benefits who have all their required documentation.
Director of Beneficiary Services Vuledzani Mulindi has called on all clients to ensure they have the correct documentation so that they can access UIF benefits.
DEL officials noted that many clients often did not provide the correct information when submitting claims to the UIF, which led to them not receiving benefits from the fund.
Mulindi added that the department has officials who can educate employers who require information on how to complete the documents.
The DEL also registered work seekers on the Employment Service South Africa (ESSA) system. The system notifies work seekers when job vacancies are available.
