The 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations concluded on 28 November 2024. Now, thousands of South African matriculants eagerly await their results.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education is gearing up to release the 2024 matric results, aiming for an impressive 85% pass rate, surpassing last year's 81.4%.

The MEC for Education has said:

Our province has been stable for the past couple of years ... it's showing that our systems are improving so we are having hope for the 85% ... I think we can beat the 85%. 

Matric Results Release Date

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has officially announced the national release date for the 2024 matric results.

Key Dates:

  • 13 January 2025: DBE Minister Siviwe Gwarube will announce the overall matric pass rate.
  • 14 January 2025: Provincial education departments, including the Eastern Cape, will release individual results to candidates.

How to Check Your 2024 Matric Results

You can access your results through two primary methods:

  1. Online:

    • Visit the Department of Basic Education's official website.
    • Use your examination number to retrieve your results.
  2. School/Exam Center:

    • Your school or exam center will have your results available.
    • You can collect a physical copy or consult with your teachers for guidance.

Understanding Your Matric Results

The NSC offers various qualification levels:

  • Bachelor's Pass:

    • Requires a minimum of 50% in five designated subjects, including Life Orientation.
    • A minimum of 30% in two additional subjects.
    • Only one subject failure is allowed.
    • This qualification enables you to pursue higher education at universities and colleges to become doctors, lawyers, psychologists, and more.
  • Diploma Pass:

    • Requires a minimum of 40% in five designated subjects, including Life Orientation.
    • A minimum of 30% in two additional subjects.
    • Only one subject failure is allowed.
    • This qualification allows you to study at higher learning institutions and technical colleges for fields like engineering, nursing, and others.
  • Higher Certificate:

    • Requires a minimum of 40% in Home Language.
    • A minimum of 40% in two subjects and 30% in three others.
    • Only one subject failure is allowed.
    • This qualification enables you to enroll in TVET colleges and certain private colleges to pursue your chosen field, subject to meeting admission requirements.
  • Fail:

    • Failing two subjects (scoring 0-29%) results in a failed year.
    • Don't be discouraged! There are opportunities to rewrite the exam, either the entire year or specific failed subjects.

2025 May/June Matric Rewrite

Registration for the 2025 May/June Senior Certificate (SC) and National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations is now open. Matric candidates can register for rewrites from 1 October 2024, to 7 February 2025.
