A proposed calendar for the 2024 academic year at Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges has been released by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
The calendar shows separate timetables for the National Certificate Vocational (NCV), Report 191: Business and Utility Studies, and Report 191: Natural Science Studies. Here are the dates for the following courses:
National Certificate Vocational (NCV)
Term 1:
- Staff: 8 January - 20 March
- Students: 18 January - 20 March
Students will have 48 lecturing days and supplementary exams will take place from 13 February to 8 March 2024.
Term 2:
- Staff and students: 3 April - 14 June
There will be 52 lecturing days in Term 2.
Term 3:
- Staff and students: 9 July - 20 September
Lecture days will amount to 53 days in Term 3 and Internal Examinations will run for 14 days.
Term 4:
- Staff and students: 1 October - 11 December
There will be 24 lecturing days in Term 4. Students will write Life Skills and Computer Literacy paper 2 exams from 1 to 7 November 2023. Examinations will take place from 8 November to 8 December 2024.
Report 191: Business and Utility Studies
Semester 1 Term 1:
- Staff: 8 January - 20 March
- Students: 15 January - 20 March
Students will have 48 lecturing days.
Semester 1 Term 2:
- Staff and students: 3 April - 14 June
There will be 32 lecturing days in Term 2. Mid-year examinations start on 21 May and end on 14 June 2024.
Semester 2 Term 3:
- Staff: 9 July - 20 September
- Students: 15 July - 20 September
Lecturing days will amount to 49 in Term 3.
Semester 2 Term 4:
- Staff and students: 1 October - 6 December
There will be 24 lecturing days. Examinations will take place from 8 November to 6 December 2024.
Report 191: Natural Science Studies
Trimester 1:
- Staff: 8 January - 19 April
- Students: 15 January - 19 April
Students will have lectures for 48 days. Examinations will take place from 25 March to 19 April 2024.
Trimester 2:
- Staff: 20 May - 23 August
- Students: 27 May - 23 August
There will be 47 lecturing days in Trimester 2. Students will write examinations from 31 July to 23 August 2024.
Trimester 3:
- Staff: 3 September - 11 December
- Students: 10 September - 11 December
Lecture days will amount to 47 days. Examinations will take place from 17 November to 11 December 2024.
Lecturers are expected to use the time when students are not on campus for lesson planning, assessment planning, subjects and faculty meetings, lecturer training, work integrated learning and work-based experience and administrative work.

TVET Colleges focus on providing students with vocational and occupational education and training, in order to prepare them to become functional workers within a skilled trade.
