With less than a month to go until receiving their Grade 12 examination results, the marks obtained is not the be all and end all.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is calling on the grade 12 class of 2021 to familiarize themselves with the Second Chance Matric Support programme. This as many students may not be satisfied with their results and will want to improve them.
The DBE’s Second Chance Matric Support Programme coordinator, Dr Sandy Malapile, explains individuals who want to improve their results can register to be part of the program. People of all ages are welcome and the program will come at no cost.
Who qualifies?
- People who want to improve their matric results, whether they wrote matric recently or in the past.
- People who failed matric and want a second chance at passing.
- People who left school after passing Grade 9 (then Standard 7), who are older than 21 and want to obtain a matric certificate.
Malapile says learners will receive support in four ways.
- Physical study guides, textbooks, past question papers
- Broadcast lessons on Mindset learn channel on 319 on DSTV or OpenView channel 201
- An online platform where learners can download all their study materials
- Physical lessons at selected venues in South Africa
Individuals who would like to register can do so at any one of the DBE 75 district offices in South Africa. Malapile adds that the students can find out where the closest DBE district office is by approaching a school teacher at a local school
If you decide to go to the district office you must take your ID, statement of results or a copy of your grade 9 results if you dropped out of school.
