As a result of these adjustments, the price of 95 octane petrol in Gauteng will drop from R22.34 to R21.62 per litre, while at the coast, it will decrease from R21.55 to R20.79 per litre.

Factors Behind the Fuel Price Decrease

The reduction in fuel prices is attributed to a decline in the average Brent Crude oil price, which fell from $74.89 to $71.04 per barrel during the review period. This was mainly due to continued supply from non-OPEC countries and an expected moderate increase in production by OPEC+ nations in April 2025.

In line with this trend, international petroleum product prices also declined, leading to lower contributions to the Basic Fuel Prices.

The average international petroleum product prices followed the decreasing trend of crude oil prices. This led to lower contributions to the Basic Fuel Prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 66.36 cents per litre (c/l), 80.10 c/l and 72.07 c/l respectively,

A stronger Rand during the review period also contributed to the price reductions. The rand appreciated from R18.50 to R18.30 per USD during the review period.

This led to lower contributions to the Basic Fuel Prices of petrol, diesel and Illuminating Paraffin by 11.72 c/l, 12.42 c/l and 12.24 c/l respectively,

These price cuts will provide much-needed relief to consumers and businesses, easing the financial burden of fuel costs.
