The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed that Sassa Gold Cards will remain fully functional for grant withdrawals, even as the transition to Black Cards begins. Beneficiaries will not experience disruptions in accessing their grants during this period.

Currently, Sassa oversees the payment of over 18 million grants, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

No December Expiry for Gold Cards

Postbank has dismissed rumours about the expiration of Sassa Gold Cards in December 2024. The cards will continue to function until every beneficiary receives a Black Card.

The transition is gradual and will take time. In the interim, beneficiaries can use their Gold Cards without concern.

Postbank’s Warning on Card Swaps

Postbank has urged beneficiaries to be cautious of fraudulent activity during the transition. They warn against individuals, including Sassa officials, who may pressure beneficiaries to change their cards.

Beneficiaries are reminded that only Postbank is authorised to replace Sassa Gold Cards. No one else, regardless of their role or affiliation, has the right to dictate who beneficiaries should bank with or demand a card swap.

Postbank has not announced a final date for completing the card transition. However, beneficiaries ready to switch to the Black Card can do so at selected retailers.

To collect a Black Card, beneficiaries must present their ID or temporary ID. If someone is collecting on their behalf, they must carry an official Sassa authorisation letter. The beneficiary’s presence is not required for the collection process.
