The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides financial support to vulnerable individuals in the form of social grants. These social grants allow beneficiaries to purchase basic goods and services every month.
Grants are provided to beneficiaries based on their needs. The older persons grants are provided to individuals who are older than 60 years old and require financial assistance. Several grants are provided by Sassa for the support of children.
Disability grants serve as vital support for people living with disabilities. The grant in aid is provided to social grant beneficiaries who require full-time care; the grant itself is meant for the payment of a caregiver.
Individuals can apply for several social grants distributed by Sassa. Applications can be submitted to Sassa for the Older Person grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top Up and Grant-in-aid.
Grant applicants must ensure they meet all the eligibility criteria for the grant they are applying for. They will also be required to submit documentation in support of their grant application.
How To Appeal For May 2023 Sassa Grants
Some grant applications may be unsuccessful. Those with unsuccessful grant applicants may submit an appeal to Sassa if they disagree with the outcome of their grant application.
Sassa will inform you in writing whether or not your application was successful. If your grant application is unsuccessful, Sassa is required to state the reasons why your application was rejected.
Grant applicants can appeal to the Minister of Social Development in writing, explaining why they disagree with Sassa’s decision to reject your grant application. The staff at the Sassa office will advise unsuccessful grant applicants on the process to follow to submit the appeal application.
It's important to note that grant appeals must be submitted within 90 days of receiving notification about the outcome of your application.
If your grant application is approved, you will be paid from the day you applied. The day you applied refers to when you sublimated your grant application along with all the required documents.
