The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes social grants to more than 18 million beneficiaries every month.

Sassa beneficiaries who completed a successful R350 grant status can choose from several payment options that will allow them access to their money. These include collecting grants from selected supermarkets and retailers such as Shoprite, Checkers, U-save, Pick ‘n Pay and Boxer.

The money can also be paid to beneficiaries through a bank account, can be withdrawn using a Sassa gold card, CashSend, or through a Post Office.

Grants distributed by the agency include:

  • Care dependency grant
  • Child support grant
  • Disability grant
  • Foster child grant
  • Grant-In-Aid
  • Older persons grant
  • War veterans grant
  • Covid-19 SRD Grant

The R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant temporally introduced to assist those who lost economic opportunities and were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The process for checking your Sassa status online is simple and straight-forward.

Here’s how to check your grant status online:

  1. Visit the Sassa grant website.
  2. Scroll down to 'Application status'.
  3. Click on 'Click here to check online'.
  4. Fill in the required fields.
  5. Here, you can access all the information about your current Sassa applications, including the status of each application.

On the main page, you will see a notification showing you the progress of your grant application when a decision has been made. Some of the decision notifications may include ‘application complete’, ‘bank details pending’, ‘reapplication pending’, ‘period pending’ or ‘period declined’.

If your application has been rejected, you can always submit a request to have the application appealed via the website, should you feel that the reason is invalid.
