Millions are expected to benefit from the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant each and every month. However, there are many people who would want it if the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) approved their SRD grant application.
An SRD grant status check lets you know whether your application for the SRD grant has been approved and, if so, when you can expect your payment.
How to Check Your SASSA SRD Grant Status
Online Status Check (Recommended)
- Visit the official SASSA SRD website.
- Locate the "Application Status" section.
- Enter your South African ID number and the phone number you used when applying.
- Click "Check Status". You might receive a one-time security code (OTP) via SMS.
- Enter the OTP to view your application status.
SASSA Status Check via WhatsApp
- Save the SASSA WhatsApp number (082 046 8553) to your contacts.
- Open WhatsApp and send a message to SASSA saying "Status" followed by your ID number.
- SASSA will reply with your application details, including any payment dates (if applicable) and your eligibility status.
What Your SASSA Status Means
- Pending: SASSA is still reviewing your application.
- Approved: Your application is approved! You'll receive an SMS notification when your R350 grant is ready for collection at participating stores (Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, or Boxer) or deposited into your bank account (if provided).
- Declined: Your application did not meet the eligibility criteria. You can appeal this decision (more on that below).
SASSA Status Update
This status check provides information on your application status, collection options (for approved grants), and the appeals process (for declined applications).
Appealing a Declined Application
If you believe SASSA made an error, you can submit an appeal through the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).
By following these steps, you can easily check your SASSA SRD grant status and understand the next steps!
