The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has opened applications for permanent grants for January 2025.
Over 18 million people depend on Sassa’s social grants for financial assistance. These grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

How to Apply
Visit a Sassa Office
Applicants can visit their nearest Sassa branch for assistance. Staff will guide them through the process. Those unable to visit a branch due to age or illness can authorise someone to apply on their behalf.
Online Application
Online applications are available for specific grants, such as the Child Support, Older Persons, and Disability Grants.
Steps to Apply Online
- Go to the Sassa Services Portal.
- Register as a new user and log in.
- Select “Apply for a Grant” and choose the relevant grant type.
- Complete the application form accurately.
- Print the affidavit generated by Sassa and have it certified by a Commissioner of Oaths.
- Submit the signed Bank Payment form with the affidavit.
- Upload all required documents in PDF format.
- Submit your application and note the reference number sent via email or SMS.

Grant Payments
Sassa processes payments in the first week of each month, excluding weekends and public holidays. Beneficiaries are not required to withdraw funds immediately, as the money remains accessible in their accounts.
