The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has outlined its NSFAS allowance payment strategy for the remainder of the 2024 academic year, including how allowances will be distributed to students enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
Eligible TVET students receive full bursaries covering tuition, registration fees, and essential living costs such as accommodation, transport, and learning materials.
Direct Payments to Student Accounts
Since May 2024, NSFAS has been transferring allowances directly into TVET students' personal bank accounts. This method will continue for the foreseeable future.
NSFAS administrator Freeman Nomvalo highlighted the significant cost savings achieved through the new payment system.
Compared to the previous method, which charged NSFAS and students R22 and R10 respectively per transaction, the new system costs less than R1 per transfer. This streamlined process has also reduced system instability and student complaints.
Update Your Banking Details for Timely NSFAS Allowance Payments
To ensure uninterrupted allowance payments, TVET students are urged to upload their banking information on the myNSFAS portal. Approximately 11,000 students have yet to complete this crucial step, which may result in delays. NSFAS is actively working to verify all submitted bank details.
How to Update Your Banking Details
- Log in to the myNSFAS portal using your credentials.
- Navigate to the "Profile Information" section.
- Select "Bank Account Details."
- Enter your bank account information accurately.
- Click "Save."
Only students with confirmed funding and submitted registration data can update their banking details on the myNSFAS portal.
