The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed that social grant payments for May 2025 will only begin in the second week of the month. Payments are scheduled to start on 6 May 2025, unlike April, when grants were paid from 2 April.

Why Are Sassa Grants Delayed in May?

Sassa usually starts processing social grant payments from the second day of the month. However, grants are not paid on weekends or public holidays.

If the 2nd of a month falls before or on a weekend or public holiday, payments are deferred to the next working day. In May 2025, Sassa will issue all grant payments on consecutive weekdays, avoiding breaks caused by non-working days.
