The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) disburses the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant as a temporary financial lifeline to unemployed South Africans aged 18 to 59.
SRD Grant Payment for July 2024
Beneficiaries can expect to receive R370 in their July SRD grant payment. This amount follows a R20 increase implemented in April 2024.
Sassa typically processes SRD grant payments in the final week of the month, excluding weekends and public holidays.
How to Receive Your SRD Grant
Grant recipients have two options for accessing their funds:
- Direct Bank Deposit: Funds are transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account. This method usually takes two to three business days to reflect.
- Supermarket Collection: Cash can be collected at designated supermarkets, including Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OKAY, and Spar.
Eligibility Criteria for the SRD Grant
To qualify for the SRD grant, applicants must undergo a rigorous verification process. Sassa assesses the following:
- Identity Verification: Confirmation of residency status through the Department of Home Affairs.
- Financial Assessment: Cross-checking of ID numbers with SARS, UIF, and NSFAS to verify financial circumstances and eligibility.
- Fraud Risk Evaluation: Analysis of ID and mobile numbers to mitigate fraud.
Government funding for the SRD grant is currently allocated until March 2025, with potential extension to March 2027.
