Sassa Denies Double Grant Payment Claims for April 2025

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has dismissed claims that grant beneficiaries will receive double payments in April 2025.

Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grants, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up, and Grant-in-Aid. This is in addition to around 8 million Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients.

A post circulating on social media falsely claims that beneficiaries will get double payments due to previous payment delays.

Sassa warned the public not to believe the message.

Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi urged beneficiaries to rely on trusted sources for updates on Sassa grants and warned against sharing unverified information.

Before anyone can share any information pertaining to social grants, they must first verify its authenticity to avoid disseminating false information that may cause anxiety and stress to our beneficiaries,

Current Sassa Grant Amounts

  • Old Age grant: R2310

  • War Veterans grant: R2330

  • Disability grant: R2330

  • Foster Care grant: R1250

  • Care Dependency grant: R2310

  • Child Support grant: R560

  • Grant-in-Aid: R560

Grant amounts will increase by R10 in October 2025:

  • Old Age grant: R2320

  • Old Age grant (over 75): R2320 + R20

  • War Veterans grant: R2320 + R20

  • Disability grant: R2320

  • Care Dependency grant: R2320

The Department of Social Development confirmed that over R66.4 billion has been allocated to Sassa for administering social grants.
