The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has commenced the payment of social grants for October 2024.
Sassa distributes more than 18 million permanent grant payments monthly which include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant,Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Sassa Payment Dates for October 2024
Sassa has confirmed the following payment dates for social grants in October 2024:
- Older Persons Grant - 2 October 2024
- Disability Grants - 3 October 2024
- Children's Grants - 4 October 2024
There’s no need to rush to withdraw funds on the first day. Once deposited, the money will remain in the account until needed.
October 2024 Sassa Grant Increases
In October 2024, millions of grant recipients will benefit from increased payments. During the annual budget speech, the Minister of Finance announced slight adjustments to grant payments to counter inflation.
The first increase for 2024 took place in April, and the second will be implemented in October.
Sassa Grant Increases for October 2024
The following grant increases will be effective from October:
- The Old-Age Pension will rise by R10, bringing the total to R2,190 per month for those aged 60 to 74, and R2,210 for those 75 and older.
- The Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant will both increase by R10 to R2,190 per month.
- The War Veterans Grant will also increase by R10, reaching R2,210 per month.
Sassa Grants Not Increasing in October 2024
The Child Support Grant, Foster Care Grant, and Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant will remain unchanged in October 2024.

Where to Collect Your Sassa Grant
Sassa beneficiaries can choose to have their grant paid directly into their bank account.
Alternatively, grants can be collected at various payment points, including ATMs and retail stores such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer.
