March 2025 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payments have commenced. Millions of people are set to benefit from payments this week.

SRD grant payments will be made between 26 March and 29 March 2025. Beneficiaries should complete a Sassa status check on the SRD website to find their exact payment date.

Beneficiaries will receive R370 for March 2025. Sassa has stated that payments will take two to three working days to reflect after processing.

Where to Collect SRD Grant Payments

Approved SRD grant recipients have two collection options:

  • Bank Account: Direct deposit into their personal bank account.

  • Supermarkets: Collection at Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OK, and Spar.

Sassa has reminded beneficiaries that payments may take two to three days to reflect in their bank accounts.

How SRD Grant Applications Are Evaluated

When applying for an SRD grant, applicants provide their details including ID number, name, and surname, which is sent to the Department of Home Affairs for validation.

In the next step, the ID number is checked against various databases including the South African Revenue Services (SARS), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to assess their financial situation. Sassa will not pay SRD grant beneficiaries to individuals benefiting from NSFAS, the UIF or any other government entity.

Both ID number and mobile number undergo a fraud risk scoring process to verify the legitimacy of the application.

Once all these checks are completed, Sassa will evaluate your application and decide whether to approve or deny the SRD grant application. If your grant application is rejected and this decision from Sassa was incorrect, you can submit an SRD grant appeal.

SRD Grant Extended Until 2026

During the Annual Budget Speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the SRD grant extension until March 2026. The government has allocated R35.2 billion to fund the grant for an additional year.
