SASSA have responded to questions relating to the changing of bank details. They explained that if grant applicants frequently change their bank details it will delay the process of payments. This is because bank details need to be verified before SASSA can proceed with payments.
The SRD grant will however not be processed on days when SASSA distributes other social relief grants. These include the older persons grant, disability grant and the child support grants. The aforementioned grants are usually distributed during the first week of the new month.
Here are the steps SASSA takes to determine whether or not you qualify for the R350 SRD grant:
Step 1- The information you provide to SASSA is validated by the Department of Home Affairs. This information includes your ID number, Name and Surname.
Step 2- Your ID number is then matched against various databases. These databases include the South African Revenue Services (SARS), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)
Step 4- Your ID number and mobile number is then put through a Fraud Risk Scoring process.
Step 5- Once these steps are completed, SASSA will decide if your SRD grant application is successful or unsuccessful
Remember, to qualify for the special Covid-19 SRD grant, applicants must not receive any other financial support from either Nsfas or the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). Applicants can also not have additional sources of income of more than R595 per month.
