The University of South Africa (Unisa) has announced the release of its October/November 2024 examination results. Thousands of students participated in the final exams, and the results are now being provided to them.

While many students will celebrate their achievements, others may face disappointment. Unisa offers various options for students, depending on their examination outcome codes.

Understanding Unisa Exam Codes

Unisa assigns specific codes to exam results, each with a unique meaning:

1: Pass - Awarded for achieving a final mark of 50% or higher.

2: Pass with Distinction - Given for a final mark of 75% or more.

3: Failed - Indicates a final mark below 50%, requiring re-registration for the module.

5: Absent from Examination - Applies when no submissions are received within the allowed period, necessitating re-registration.

6: Supplementary Examination - Granted under certain conditions, allowing a second examination attempt without re-registration.

7/99: Results Outstanding - Marks are pending and can be followed up from 14 December 2024.

8: Not Admitted to Examination - Issued if admission criteria are not met, requiring re-registration.

24: Absent – Supplementary - Assigned when the proctoring tool is not used during the first exam opportunity; re-registration is required.

28: Script Rejected - Given when the proctoring tool is not used during the second exam opportunity; re-registration is necessary.

The staggered release of results began earlier this month, with final releases expected by 13 December 2024.

Applications for Re-Marks Open

Unisa has opened applications for exam re-marks. Students may request a re-mark or purchase a copy of their exam scripts until 31 January 2025.

Re-mark applications can be submitted online via myUnisa or emailed to [email protected]. To purchase an exam script, students must email [email protected], ensuring their student number is in the subject line.

Only marks within the 35%-49% or 68%-74% range are eligible for re-marks. Exam scripts flagged for academic dishonesty are excluded from re-marking.

Rules for Aegrotat Applications

Unisa has clarified the rules for aegrotat applications, which allow postgraduate students to apply if they miss an exam due to illness, bereavement, or exceptional circumstances.

Postgraduate students who miss their first online exam for reasons such as illness, power outages, internet issues, or a family death may apply. Applications must be submitted within 10 days of the missed exam. No applications will be accepted after results are released.

Aegrotats are not granted for missed second exams. Detailed information is available on the Aegrotat and Special Exams page on Unisa’s website.

No Aegrotats for Undergraduates

Undergraduate students are not eligible for aegrotats, as they are automatically granted two examination opportunities per module. The second opportunity acts as a fallback for missed or failed first attempts.

Unisa confirmed that no third opportunities will be provided. Students who miss or fail both exams must re-register for the module. Applications for aegrotats at the undergraduate level will result in a system error.
