Admission applications for learners enrolling in public schools in the Western Cape in 2024 closed in April 2023. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) received 165,993 admissions applications during the application period.

Around 9,900 of the admission applications required by the WCED were submitted as late applications. These applications will be considered by schools after they placed learners whose parents applied during the prescribed application period. The deadline for late applications will be 25 May 2023.

The WCED 2024 school admissions timeframe will provide information to stakeholders on when activities related to learner placements will take place. In particular, it indicates when parents should receive the outcome of their admission applications.

The timeframes allocated to each admission actively will allow the provincial education department to efficiently plan for the provision of classrooms, staffing requirements and Learning and Teaching Support Materials.

This will assist the WCED to ensure learning can take place on the first day of the 2024 school year

Here's The WCED Admissions Time frame

WCED admissions time frames

Phase 1 of the WCED’s 2024 admissions time frame consists of parents and guardians submitting admission applications and processing these applications by schools in the province. Processing of applications by schools is set to conclude on 19 May 2023.

One of the most important periods in Phase 1 will take place between 29 May and 2 June 2023. This is when parents will be informed of the outcome of their admission application.

Parents will be required to confirm the final acceptance by 19 June 2023. If they do not confirm their acceptance the system will automatically allocate the first successful offer from a school on the list.

The demand for learning placement at schools in the Western Cape continues to grow annually.

Phase 2 of the admission application process will commence on 19 June 2023. Schools will begin flailing available space and parents are informed of places. Parents must accept and confirm places within three days.

The WCED warned that schools may not deviate from the time frames provided in the time frame. Schools that deviate from these data will be dealt with in terms of the WCED procedure.

Schools are not allowed to reveal the outcome of admissions applications before the WCED displays the outcome on their Online Admissions System.

The final phase of the admissions application process will commence on 31 July 2023 as the WCED works to resolve applications and place unplaced learners in consultation with schools.
