Applications for 2025 WCED school admissions will remain open until 12 April, providing parents and guardians with a month-long window to apply.
Here's how to apply:
- Visit the WCED website and navigate to 'Admissions 2024/25'.
- Click on 'Admission | Grade 1 & 8'.
- If you haven't already registered, sign up as a Parent/Guardian by selecting 'Parent Register'.
- Log in to your profile using your ID number and Password, and then click 'Parent Login'.
- Choose 'Learner Application'.
- Select the Grade and answer the required questions.
- Click on 'NEW application'.
- Complete the application details.
- Upload the necessary documents.
- Click 'Submit application'.
To facilitate the process and offer support, WCED has established venues across the province. Pop-up admission sites will be available at over 120 locations, including shopping malls, schools, and other facilities, across all 8 education districts.
It's encouraged that parents and guardians apply on time to enable efficient planning and enhance the placement process in the province.
Required documents for school applications include:
- The last official school Report Card
- Proof of identity: ID, Birth certificate, or passport of the learner. In the case of a foreign learner: a passport, study permit, or proof of application for a study permit, or a copy of the parent’s Asylum seeker or Refugee Permit. Alternatively, a police affidavit if these documents are unavailable.
- Immunisation card (Road to Health Chart) [Primary Schools only]
- Proof of Residence (Rates account, Lease agreement, an affidavit confirming residence)
The 2025 school calendar will span from 15 January to 10 December, comprising a total of 199 school days. Schools in inland provinces typically commence on a different date than those in coastal provinces, usually with a one-week gap between them. However, for 2025, schools across the country will commence the first term on the same date (15 January 2025) and conclude it 52 school days later (28 March 2025).
The school admission applications for Grade R or transfers between schools in Grades 2 to 7 and Grades 9 to 12 will open from 1 August 2024 and close on 16 August 2024.
