The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) announced that Grade R admission applications for the 2025 school year will open on 1 August 2024. Parents of children turning six in 2025 can apply for a Grade R placement at a Western Cape school.
Parents who have not registered on the online system previously will first need to register on the online site. Once registration is completed, they can then proceed to the application.
Online School Applications
Applications can be submitted online via the WCED's admissions website. Parents new to the system must register before applying.
To streamline the application process, parents should have the following ready:
- Pen and paper to record the password
- Email address
- ID number
- Scanned certified documents (clearly labelled)
WCED Grade R Application Steps
- Visit the WCED website.
- Select "Admissions 2024/25."
- Register as a parent/guardian.
- Complete the registration form.
- Log in and complete the parent profile.
- Start the learner application.
Required Documents
Online applicants need the following:
- Immunisation card
- ID, birth certificate, passport, study permit, proof of application, or police affidavit
- Proof of address or police affidavit
