The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was introduced to allow a pathway for students from poor and working-class households to gain access to further education at a public University and TVET College.

The NSFAS application window opened on 28 September 2022 and is set to close on 31 January 2023.

In previous years NSFAS has allowed deadline extensions in some cases, which lead to interested parties wondering if they will allow late applications.

So will there be NSFAS late applications for 2023 bursaries?

No, NSFAS has stated that no late applications will be accepted for 2023 NSFAS bursaries.

If you submit your NSFAS application after the closing date, it will be rejected and you will receive an 'APPLICATION RECEIVED AFTER CLOSING DATE' NSFAS status. This rejection status cannot be appealed.

NSFAS applicants are urged to apply before the application deadline to ensure that their application is done smoothly and if there are any complications, they can be sorted out before the start of the academic year.

NSFAS applications can be submitted on the NSFAS portal, myNSFAS.

NSFAS has also developed alternative channels which students can use to apply for funding, including a mobile application, USSD and WhatsApp.
