19 January is a night many have been waiting for as the Department of Basic Education's (DBE) Minister, Angie Motshekga, announces the 2022 matric results. The Minister congratulated the Class of 2022 as excellent results were achieved.
In 2022, Matrics reached a national pass rate of 80.1% for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. When compared to the 2021 matric pass rate, 2022 saw a 3.7% improvement.
Matric Pass Rate By Province
As for the provincial matric pass rates, the department revealed the following:
- Western Cape pass rate: 81.4%
- Gauteng pass rate: 84.4%
- Limpopo pass rate: 72.1%
- Eastern Cape pass rate: 77.3%
- Kwazulu-Natal pass rate: 83%
- North West pass rate: 79.8%
- Northern Cape pass rate: 74.2%
- Mpumalanga pass rate: 76.8%
- Free State pass rate: 88.5%
As for the different passes, the Minister revealed that there was a 4.1% increase in Bachelor passes, 197 357 diploma passes, 108 159 higher certificate passes and 117 NSC endorsements.
2022 saw 920 034 learners write their final Matric exams, a 2.6% increase compared to the previous year.
Matriculants will then be able to collect their statement of results from their exam centres on 20 January 2023 from 7am.
