South Africa has reached a major milestone in its Covid-19 vaccination rollout plan. The Department of Health announced that more than 8,1 million South Africans are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19. More than 16.4 doses of Covid-19 vaccines has been administered.

Judgement expected today

The Constitution Court will today make a ruling on whether the University of South Africa’s (UNISA) new language policy is unconstitutional.

The South African Post Office (SAPO) has announced that the South African Social Security Agency’s (SASSA) special Covid-19 R350 Social Relief of Distress grant beneficiaries will now be able to collect their money from Pick n Pay as well as Boxer stores in addition to the post office.

The UIF will now be paying Covid-19 Ters funds directly to employees. Payments for the 16 March 2021 to 25 July 2021 period will be made directly to workers.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is urging employers to declare their workers on the UIF’s UFiling system.

Losing a loved one can be extremely difficult for families. This is often made harder when the loved one who passed was the family breadwinner. The UIF allows for spouses or beneficiaries of contributors to apply for relief benefits.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that the special Covid-19 R350 Special Relief of Distress grant could continue beyond March 2022.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) is calling for the education department to follow one school calendar for the 2023 and 2024 school years.

Last week the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines were authorised for use in individuals younger than 18 years old. Despite this, The Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla says the focus remains on vaccinating adults in South Africa.
