The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has appointed a new Director-General.
Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande congratulated Dr Nkosinathi Sishi on his new appointment as the new Director-General of the DHET.
“Dr Sishi joins the department as we grapple with the negative impact of Covid 19, whilst remaining committed to fund deserving students and learners in the post-school education and training sector through a combination of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme and through the skills levies, despite the fiscal pressures we currently face,” said the Minister.
According to the Minister, Sishi has 35 years of experience working in different spheres of government and state-owned enterprises. His most recent occupation was working as the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).
Sishi is expected to start working for the DHET on 1 November 2021. His term as the Director-General of the DHET will run for a period of 5 years.
"He will have my full support and backing. I call upon the entire PSET system to give Dr Sishi all the support and co-operation he may need." said Minister Nzimande.
The Higher Education Sector has faced some challenges, following the disruptions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Minister Nzimande hopes the appointment of the new Deputy Director General will help address these challenges and give the department get back on track.
