Approximately 9.5 million people benefited from the reintroduced Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
The SRD or R350 grant, was reintroduced in August 2021. The grant aims to provide financial assistance to unemployed South Africans, permanent residents and refugees who are between the ages of 18 and 59.
People in this age group do not receive any other financial support in the form of a social grant from the government.
Once a person reaches the age of 60 years old, they will qualify for the Older persons grant. If they are under the age of 18, they are considered as a child and could qualify for the child support grant.
