Millions of financially vulnerable South Africans rely on the South African Social Security Agency’s (Sassa) monthly social grant payments for their daily living expenses.
Keeping up with the agency’s grant payment dates listed below has become all that more important for all grant beneficiaries.
Here are the Social Grant Payment Dates For March:
- Older Person Grant: Thursday 02 March 2023
- Disability Grant: Friday 03 March 2023
- Child Support Grant: Monday 06 March 2023
Beneficiaries have a wide variety of ways to collect their social grant. One of them is by visiting the Post Bank and using their Sassa Gold card to collect their grant payments. An additional option is collecting the grant payments at any of the following retail outlets:
- Checkers
- U- Save
- Pick n Pay
- And Boxer
Sassa also reassures beneficiaries that they do not necessarily need to withdraw the rest of their grant payment on the exact day it is paid. This is because, when processed by Sassa, the funds will remain available until recipients decide to use them.
However, Sassa’s functional capacity has recently raised concerns among officials from the Western Cape government.
In a recent statement issued on Friday this past week, Shadow Minister of Social Development for the Western Cape called on Social Development Minister Linidiwe to address the dysfunctionality of Sassa’s system, following a visit to Sassa Bellville offices
I will continue to do so, to pressure the wholly absent national Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu to respond to the needs of the deeply vulnerable citizens who experience the dysfunctionality of the system daily.
The underlying issues at the branch have affected beneficiaries in various ways, including one that has been unable to access their expired disability grant for the past three months since December last year and only received an appointment on 14 February 2023.
The statement also alludes to other beneficiaries who have been unable to access the branch due to long queues despite having appointments.
In response, Sassa claims to be in the process of addressing these issues through measures such as the introduction of queue management and appointment systems, acquiring inverters to lessen the effects of load-shedding and adding that the Post Bank has resolved its system challenges which led to delays in payments to grant beneficiaries.
