The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is responsible for the distribution of short-term financial relief to members of the South African labour force who are either required to take leave of work for personal reasons or have been retrenched.
You can register on the UIF’s online portal by following the steps listed below
Step 1: Visit the uFiling website by clicking HERE
Step 2: Click on ‘Register’ in the top right corner
Step 3: Read the Terms and Conditions
Step 4: Complete all required steps
Step 5: You will receive an activation message via from preferred method of contact
Step 6: Click on the link to activate
Step 7: Use the username and temporary password provided to you via your preferred method on contact
Step 8: The system will ask you to change your password
Once the vetting period has passed, you will be directed to a page where you can update your personal details before you can proceed to the ufiling website.
You are required by law to register for the UIF if you work for longer than 24 hours per month. Two percent of your gross salary is contributed to the fund, with one percent being deducted from your salary while your employer contributes a further one percent.
