Matric learners looking for a second opportunity to rewrite their matric exams, and hopefully score better results, can do so via the Matric Second Chance Programme.
Registration for the May/June Matric Second Chance Programme closes today, 20 February 2023.
Online registration is done on the South African e-Services Portal. Learners will need to make a profile in order to register for the programme.
In-person registration takes place at any Department of Basic Education (DBE) office. Learners are reminded to have their documentation, such as their identity document (ID) and statement of results, with them when registering.
The Second Chance Matric Programme was established to provide learners with the support to rewrite the National Senior Certificate (NSC). The programme aims to increase learner retention.
While the programme does not cover the entire curriculum, it does focus on the core content of each knowledge area and points out where the learners can earn easy marks. Learners are encouraged to work through the learning material to improve their understanding, identify weak areas and correct their mistakes.
Benefits of the programme include:
- Learners meet the requirements of the NSC and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate.
- Learner retention increases.
- Job opportunities and career pathing increases.
- Learners may receive bursary opportunities to further their studies.
In an effort to help learners achieve the best possible results, the programme offers multimedia material. The material includes:
- Videos
- Study guides
- Audio
The DBE is confident that the material will help learners prepare well so that they may pass the exams. Learners are urged to cover the remaining aspects of the curriculum using other resources to ensure a high-quality pass.
