With the festive season right around the corner, social media platforms are fast becoming the perfect tool for targeting unsuspecting victims with misinformation, particularly when seeking access to their finances. Sassa social grant recipients seem to have not been spared from this scheme.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says that social media reports that the Sassa card is being replaced have alarmed grant beneficiaries and raised concerns within the agency. The Sassa Gold Card is still valid and recognised by all merchants and ATMs that are part of the National Payment System.
Furthermore, posts on social media claiming that social grants recipients won't get their grant payments in December if they haven't replaced their cards are also not true.
Sassa has also reiterated that any updates about the distribution of social grant payments would be announced via the organisation's official social media channels, the media, and by Sassa officials, not through individual social media accounts or voice messages from unknown individuals.
Any changes on the payment of social grants will be communicated through official Sassa social media platforms, through media and by Sassa officials and not through personal social media accounts or voice notes from unknown people.
Social grant recipients can use ATMs and stores for free, pay no bank fees for the first three transactions, and avoid unauthorised deductions with the Sassa Gold Card.
