The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is responsible for the distribution of a number of different social support grants.
The most recent social support grant is the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. The grant provides financial assistance to unemployed individuals who do not qualify for any other social grants.
However, many people who have applied for the SRD grant, which is valued at R350, were rejected. One of the reasons for rejection which would appear is alternative_income_source_identified.
The SRD grant is specifically for people who are unemployed. If you are receiving an amount of money equal to or more than R595 per month, SASSA would make the determination that you have an alternative income and will then reject your SRD grant application.
If you do have an amount of R595 or more being paid into your bank account every month, you will receive the alternative_income_source_identified rejection message.
To qualify for the SRD grant applicants must ...

Be unemployed
Be between the ages of 18 and 60. If you are 60 years old you qualify for the older persons grant. If you are under 18 your parent or guardian may be eligible to receive a child support grant on your behalf.
Not be receiving any other SASSA grant.
Not be benefiting from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)
Not be benefiting from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)
