The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) distributes social support grants on behalf of the South African government.
The Special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was established to provide crucial support to unemployed South Africans in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.
SASSA found that 53% of the SRD grant applicants were between the ages of 20 years old and 34 years old. SASSA also revealed that 8.9% of SRD grant applicants come from the Western Cape.
