The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant provides support to millions of South Africans every month.

The grant was introduced to help shield people from the impact of the Covid-19 enforced lockdown. The lockdown drastically decreased people’s ability to find employment opportunities.

It was reintroduced in August 2021 as the long lasting impact of the pandemic was being felt around the country. However not everybody who applied for the SRD grant was accepted.

One of the reasons why people’s grant applications were rejected is ‘age_outside_range’. This means that you do not qualify for the SRD grant based on your age. Only people between the age of 18 and 59-years old qualify for the SRD grant.

If you are younger than 18 years-old, your parent or guardian can apply for the child support grant on your behalf. From 60 years-old upward, people can qualify for the older persons grant.

Here’s what you should do about a ‘Age Outside Range’ SRD status

If you are over the age of 60 years-old you must apply for the older persons grant. This can be done by visiting any Sassa Local Office are applying online at https://services.sassa.gov.za/
