Earlier this month the 2022 matric final examinations came to an end and the official marking processes for the exams commenced on 10 December 2022 and will conclude on 20 December 2022.
In a statement, the Department of Basic Education and Training (DBE) reported that Minister Angie Motshekga will be announcing the final results on 19 January 2023 and learners will then be able to collect their results from exam centres or schools across the country on 20 January 2023.
While many learners will be pleased with their final examination outcomes, others might be dissatisfied with their results.
In the instance where a learner does not pass their National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, or are unhappy with results for certain subjects, they may apply to have their exam scripts re-marked or rechecked.
A re-mark implies that a learners exam paper will be marked a second time, whereas a re-check of a particular exam script is an additional check to confirm that all questions have been correctly marked and that all marks have been appropriately calculated.
Matric learners who want to apply for their examination to be re-marked or re-checked must register to do so before the closing date on 3 February 2023.
It is crucial to note that re-marks and re-checks are not free, and a fee has to be paid in order for the department to conduct a re-mark or re-check.
The payment for re-marking and re-checking for the 2022/23 academic period are as follows:
- Re-marking = R110 (per subject)
- Re-checking = R27 (per subject)
- Viewing of scripts (only after re-marking and re-checking) = R212 (per subject)
Additionally, If a learner is still unsatisfied with their results after a re-mark or re-check was done, there are other programmes and rewrite opportunities available for them to upgrade their results.
The closing date to register for the 2023 May/June NSC exam re-writes is 8 February 2023, and learners who want to re-write at the end of the year during the 2023 November NSC examinations have until 15 March 2023 to register.
