The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offers a number of grants with the aim of providing social assistance to those in need.
The Foster Child Grant is one of the grants offered by SASSA. In order to qualify for the grant, you need to meet the following criteria:
The applicant and child must be resident in South Africa;
Must provide a court order indicating foster care status;
The foster parent must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
Child must remain in the care of the foster parent (s).
Foster parents must provide a 13 digit barcoded identity document; the smart ID card.
Must provide a birth certificate for the foster child.
The outcome of the application could take up to 3 months to complete once submitted. If your application is approved, you will receive an amount of R1050 and this money will be paid from the date the court placed the child in your care.
