Mpumalanga is bracing itself for the release of the 2024 Matric results, with thousands of students eagerly awaiting their fate. This year, over 800,000 candidates nationwide sat for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education has set an ambitious target of an 83% matric pass rate for the Class of 2024.

To ensure a smooth and efficient marking process, the department deployed a dedicated team of 6,453 officials, including Senior Markers, Chief Markers, Moderators, Examination Assistants, and Centre Managers across 21 marking centers in the province. The marking process commenced on 29 November and concluded on 12 December 2024.

MEC for the Mpumalanga Department of Education, Ms. Cathy Dlamini, said:

We extend our gratitude to all the stakeholders who contributed towards the smooth writing of these examinations. We also want to appreciate the role played by parents and community members in creating a stable and conducive environment for our learners to peacefully write their exams.

Matric Results Release Date

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has scheduled the announcement of the 2024 Matric results for 13 January 2025. Provincial education departments, including Mpumalanga, will then release the results to candidates on the morning of 14 January 2025.

How to Access Your Results

  1. Online: The DBE website will host a dedicated results portal where you can access your matric results using your examination number.
  2. School/Exam Center: Your school or the exam center where you wrote your exams will also have your results available.

Understanding Your Matric Results

  • Bachelor's Pass:

    • Requires a minimum of 50% in five designated subjects, including Life Orientation.
    • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects.
    • Only one subject failure is allowed.
    • A Bachelor's Pass qualifies you for admission to universities and colleges to pursue degrees in fields like medicine, law, and psychology.
  • Diploma Pass:

    • Requires a minimum of 40% in five designated subjects, including Life Orientation.
    • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects.
    • Only one subject failure is allowed.
    • A Diploma Pass allows you to study at higher learning institutions and technical colleges for qualifications like engineering, nursing, and more.
  • Higher Certificate:

    • Requires a minimum of 40% in Home Language.
    • A minimum of 40% in two subjects and 30% in three other subjects.
    • Only one subject failure is allowed.
    • A Higher Certificate qualifies you for admission to TVET colleges and some private colleges to study in various fields, subject to specific admission requirements.
  • Failing Matric:

    • Failing two subjects (scoring 0-29%) results in a failed year.
    • Don't be discouraged! There are opportunities to rewrite the entire year or specific failed subjects.

2025 May/June Matric Rewrite Applications

Registration for the 2025 May/June Senior Certificate (SC) and National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations is now open. Matric candidates can register for the 2025 mid-year matric exam rewrites from 1 October 2024, to 7 February 2025.
