The 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams in South Africa concluded on 28 November after commencing on 21 October. Now, countless Grade 12 learners in the Northern Cape are eagerly awaiting the release of their final exam results.

The wait is almost over for South African matriculants! The 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, which commenced on 21 October and concluded on 28 November, will soon have their matric results released.

The Northern Cape Department of Education said:

We wish the Class of 2024 well and trust that they will make the Northern Cape proud. 

When Will the 2024 Matric Results Be Released?

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated 2024 matric results.

  • Release Date: Minister Siviwe Gwarube will announce the national results on 13 January.
  • Provincial Release: On the following morning, 14 January, provincial education departments, including the Northern Cape, will release matric results to candidates.

How to Check Your 2024 Matric Results

There are two primary methods to access your matric results:

  1. Online: The DBE website will feature a dedicated results portal. You'll need your examination number to view your results online.
  2. School/Exam Center: Your school or the exam center where you wrote your exams will also have your results available. This option is ideal if you prefer a physical copy or require assistance from your teachers in interpreting your results.

Understanding Your Matric Results: Different Passes

  • Bachelor's Pass:

    • Requires at least 50% in five designated subjects, including Life Orientation.
    • Requires above 30% in two other subjects.
    • Allows for further studies at universities and colleges in fields like medicine, law, and psychology.
  • Diploma Pass:

    • Requires at least 40% in five designated subjects, including Life Orientation.
    • Requires at least 30% in two other subjects.
    • Enables entry into some higher learning institutions and technical colleges for studies such as engineering and nursing.
  • Higher Certificate:

    • Requires at least 40% in Home Language.
    • Requires 40% in at least two subjects and 30% in three other subjects.
    • Allows for further studies at TVET colleges and some private colleges, subject to meeting admission requirements.
  • Fail:

    • Failing two subjects (scoring 0-29%) results in failing the year.
    • Remember: Matric can be challenging. Opportunities exist to rewrite the exams. You can either repeat the entire year or focus on retaking the failed subjects.

2025 May/June Matric Rewrite Applications Now Open

Registration for the 2025 May/June Senior Certificate (SC) and National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations is currently open. Matric candidates can now register for the 2025 midyear exam rewrites.

Registration is open from 1 October 2024, and will close on 7 February 2025.
