The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants to millions of financially vulnerable people in the country.

There are several reasons why an applicant may choose to cancel their SRD grant. This may be because they no longer need the financial assistance or no longer meet the eligibility criteria for the SRD grant.

If your situation has changed and you no longer require the grant, you can cancel your SRD grant application.

How To Cancel Your SRD Grant Application For April 2025

  • Step 1: Visit the official Sassa website and navigate to the “Cancel My Application” section.
  • Step 2: Enter your ID number and mobile number used during your SRD application.
  • Step 3: Verify your identity by entering the 6-digit OTP (One-Time Pin) sent to your phone via SMS.
  • Step 4: Follow the prompts to confirm and finalise the cancellation of your SRD grant application.

If your circumstances have changed and you no longer need or qualify for the special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant, you may cancel your application by clicking on the button below.

SRD Grant Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the SRD grant in April 2025, applicants must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or holders of special permits.

They must not be receiving other government financial assistance such as Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) benefits or NSFAS bursaries. In addition, their bank account balance must be less than R624.

If you do not meet these requirements, you can cancel your SRD grant application for April 2025.
