The South African government introduced the R350 grant as an emergency response to help mitigate the impact the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns would have on unemployed people.
The grant provided temporary financial assistance, which allowed beneficiaries to purchase food and other essential goods.
While the grant was only meant to be paid to beneficiaries for three months during 2020, the implementation of the grant was extended on several occasions and will continue to assist beneficiaries until March 2024. You can apply online for your Sassa grant.
South African citizens, permanent residents, special permit holders and refugees can apply for the R350 grant. They must be unemployed and be between 18 and 59 years old. If they do not fall within this age bracket, they may qualify for the Older Persons Grant or the Child Support Grant.
In terms of the R350 SRD grant, income refers to the money a person has in their bank account. If they have more than R624 in their bank account, their applications for the grant will be rejected.
Individuals who meet the eligibility criteria for the R350 grant can submit an online application to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). There are two application options available to individuals wanting to apply for the R350 grant for October 2023.
