The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides financial assistance to South African students, covering tuition, registration fees, and essential living costs.
How NSFAS Payments Work For December
NSFAS divides its annual allowance payments into ten installments. This means that Unisa students will not receive any NSFAS allowances in December 2024.
The academic year typically runs from February to November. NSFAS aligns its paymentswith this period, ensuring students receive financial support during their active study months.
What Unisa Students Receive from NSFAS
Unisa students funded by NSFAS are eligible for two main types of allowances:
Learning Materials Allowance:
- Based on the number of registered modules.
- First four modules: R700 per module.
- Five or more modules: A one-time payment of R5,460.
If R5,200 has already been paid for five modules, no additional funds are provided for extra modules. This allowance helps cover the cost of textbooks and other study materials.
Living Allowance:
Available to students registered for ten or more modules. Includes an incidental allowance as specified by Unisa. This allowance assists with living expenses, such as food and accommodation.
NSFAS also covers tuition and registration fees for eligible students.
By understanding the NSFAS payment schedule and the specific allowances available to Unisa students, you can better plan your finances and academic journey.
