The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides vital financial support to South African students pursuing higher education. This support covers tuition fees and includes allowances to assist with living expenses.

Students with "provisionally funded" NSFAS status can proceed with registration during their institution's registration period. NSFAS will then confirm funding and initiate disbursement processes.
NSFAS TVET College Applications Now Open
Following a previous announcement, NSFAS has now opened a walk-in application period for 2025 TVET College students. A circular released by NSFAS read:
This circular cancels the previous communication contained in Circular 9 of 2024, which stated that NSFAS will not be opening 2025 TVET walk-in applications in January 2025.
Applications will close on 24 January 2025.
NSFAS received a significant number of applications for the 2025 academic year: 890,599 bursary applications and 17,369 loan applications.
Students with outstanding documents have 30 days from receiving a notice to submit them. Failure to submit required documents will result in the cancellation of their NSFAS application.
"We also remind those who have not yet submitted their outstanding supporting documents to do so urgently, to allow NSFAS to finalise their funding decisions," said NSFAS.
2025 NSFAS Accommodation Applications Now Open
NSFAS has launched its student accommodation portal for the 2025 academic year. NSFAS partners with accredited providers to ensure safe and quality housing options for students.
Accommodation applications are open now and will remain available until all NSFAS-accredited properties are fully booked. Students can now apply for and secure accommodation through this online system.
