The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) has opened applications for the November 2024 matric rewrite examinations. This opportunity is valuable for learners aiming to enhance their final matric results. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 31, 2024. It is advisable for students to complete their applications promptly to secure participation in the year-end matric examinations.
Eligible candidates for the IEB November matric rewrites include those who:
- Attempted the IEB matric exams in the previous year and seek to improve their results.
- Were unable to write specific subjects in the previous year due to illness or other valid reasons.
- Did not sit for the IEB matric exams previously but met the IEB's registration requirements.
To apply, candidates can submit Matric Rewrite applications online through the IEB website or download the form and submit it via mail. The application form, accompanied by the relevant fees, must reach the board before the deadline. Registration payments must also be processed through the online platform.
The registration fee per subject varies annually and is accessible on the registration platform. It is essential to note that examination fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
IEB matric results carry significant weight with universities in South Africa and internationally due to their academic rigor and adherence to high standards. Many students who undertake IEB exams subsequently secure admission to prestigious universities both locally and abroad. In 2023, the IEB Matric class achieved an overall pass rate of 98.46%.
All successful candidates in the 2023 IEB NSC examinations attained a pass, enabling access to tertiary education at one of three levels: 88.59% achieved a degree pass, 8.31% obtained a diploma pass, and 1.57% secured a higher certificate pass.
A total of 15,186 learners sat for the IEB exams in October and November, comprising 12,580 full-time and 945 part-time candidates.
The quality of the 2023 IEB NSC examinations was assured by Umalusi, the quality and assurance body. Umalusi conducted moderation of question papers, supervised the writing of examinations, verified the marking, and standardised marks.
The IEB emphasised Umalusi's role in reviewing and accrediting their assessments and examinations to ensure compliance with national standards and uphold the integrity of the education system.
