The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has rejected more than 3.7 Million Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 grant applications.
SASSA has urged SRD grant applicants who applied to have their applications considered to be patient while they await the outcome from the agency.
SASSA said, ‘clients who have applied for reconsideration are advised of a delay addressing the reconsideration requests, SASSA is currently working to resolve this issue.
Grant applicants have the right to apply to have their grants reconsidered in order to have access to valuable relief.
It is estimated that more than 90% of SRD grant beneficiaries used their grant money to purchase food. Food was the most frequently purchased item followed by electricity. This shows the importance of the grant in helping vulnerable members of our society.
