The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) reevaluates your eligibility for the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant on a monthly basis. One of the reasons your SRD grant may have been rejected is if the details you provided do not match on the Home Affairs database.
Home Affairs has the identification details for all South African citizens, permanent residents and refugees. If your details do not appear on the home affairs website you will receive the identity_verification_failed on the SRD website when checking your grant status.
You may need to verify your details at a Home Affairs office or call SASSA’s toll-free helpline on toll-free 0800 601 011 for more information SASSA found that many people were not able to apply for the SRD grant due to not having an ID number.
They then allowed people to apply for the grant with a SASSA generated Quad-7 number. The Quad-7 number is given to caregivers and people who receive grants on behalf of children.
Caregivers who do not have their SASSA system-generated identification starting with 7777, are advised to call the SASSA toll-free number on 0800 60 10 11 to request their 7777 number.
The SRD grant is also open to persons who are holders of special permits under the Special Angolan Dispensation, the Lesotho Exemption Permit dispensation and the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation, and asylum seekers whose section 22 permits or visas are valid or were valid on 15 March 2020.
