The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) disburses millions of social grants to vulnerable South Africans each month. As the festive season approaches, it's crucial to be vigilant against scammers who often target grant recipients.
Sassa has clarified:
SASSA clients and the public at large are advised to ignore ... as it is FALSE and does NOT come from SASSA.

Sassa administers a range of vital grants, including:
- Older Persons pension grant
- Disability grant
- War Veterans grant

Beware of Fake "Christmas Grants"
Recently, messages circulating about a "R500 Christmas celebration grant" have been circulating. Sassa has categorically denied this.
This period often sees an increase in scams targeting vulnerable individuals. We urge our beneficiaries to remain vigilant and avoid being misled by unverified information.
No R700 Grant Either!
Similarly, rumors of an R700 grant payment are completely false. Sassa urges beneficiaries to disregard these claims and rely solely on official Sassa channels for accurate information.
"It's your responsibility to report any suspected fraudulent or corrupt activities relating to social grants. You can do so by phoning SASSA's grants and fraud hotline on 0800 601 011," said Sassa.
