The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially announced the social grant payment dates for the 2026/2027 financial year, giving millions of beneficiaries clarity on when they will receive their monthly payments.
The agency confirmed that the payment schedule was approved by the National Treasury on Friday, 20 March 2026.
SASSA Grant Payment Dates For April And May 2026
For April 2026, payments will be made as follows:
• Older Persons Grant: 2 April 2026
• Disability Grant: 7 April 2026
• Children’s Grants: 8 April 2026
For May 2026, beneficiaries can expect payments on these dates:
• Older Persons Grant: 5 May 2026
• Disability Grant: 6 May 2026

How SASSA Determines Payment Dates
“The general principle for determining the grant payment dates for social grants is to ensure they are paid as early in the month as possible, staggered over three days. in most months the old age grant will be paid on the 2nd of each month, disability grant on the 3rd of the month and children grants on the 4th of the month,” the agency said.
SASSA explained that several factors are considered when setting payment dates to ensure the smooth operation of the system and easy access for beneficiaries:
• Payments are not scheduled for the day after a public holiday
• Payments do not take place on the 1st of the month or on a Monday
• Payment dates do not fall on weekends
If a payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday, beneficiaries will receive their grant on the next working day.
SASSA Grant Increases From April 2026
Following the announcement made by the Minister of Finance during the 2026 Budget Speech, several social grants will increase from April 2026:
• Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant: Increase of R80 to R2 400
• War Veterans Grant: Increase of R80 to R2 420
• Foster Child Grant: Increase of R40 to R1 290
• Child Support Grant and Grant-In-Aid: Increase of R20 to R580
“SASSA reiterates its commitment to paying social grants to eligible beneficiaries at the right time and appeals to all beneficiaries who may have not received their grants on these specified dates to visit their nearest SASSA local office for assistance,” the agency said.
