Postbank has officially launched the final phase of replacing SASSA Gold Cards with new Postbank Black Cards, with the rollout set to begin on 29 April 2026.
Social grant beneficiaries who are still using Gold Cards have been urged to make the switch before the 31 August 2026 deadline. After this date, SASSA Gold Cards will stop working, which could result in beneficiaries losing access to their grant payments.
This replacement drive forms part of Postbank’s broader card migration project, which first began in September 2024.
Postbank Chief Commercial Officer Thamsanqa Cele emphasised the urgency for beneficiaries who have not yet made the change.
“Starting from this month, we are intensifying the final stages of the SASSA Gold Cards replacement process. This is a direct call to action for customers who have not yet migrated — please act as soon as possible,” he said.
Cele confirmed that the deadline will not be extended and warned that failing to switch cards in time could lead to disruptions in grant payments.
Beneficiaries who have already received their Postbank Black Cards do not need to take any further action. These cards remain fully functional and offer several benefits, including three free withdrawals per month, one free card replacement, and a free monthly statement.
Postbank also highlighted that Black Card accounts provide added protection against unauthorised deductions and the misuse of personal information.
Where To Collect Your Postbank Black Card
New Postbank Black Cards can be collected at no cost from Postbank service points located inside selected retail stores. These include Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and SPAR.
To collect a card, beneficiaries only need to present a valid South African ID or a temporary ID document. No application forms are required, and cards can be collected from any province, regardless of where the grant was originally approved.
Postbank confirmed that any remaining balance on a SASSA Gold Card will automatically be transferred to the new Black Card, which can be used immediately after collection.
How To Find Your Nearest Collection Point
Beneficiaries can locate their nearest card replacement site by dialling *120*355# on any mobile phone. These service centres can also assist with lost cards and PIN resets.
Beware Of Scams
Postbank has warned beneficiaries to stay alert to scams during this process. Any card that is not clearly branded with “Postbank” on the front, or requires forms to be completed to function, is not an official Postbank Black Card.
For assistance or enquiries, beneficiaries can contact Postbank on 0800 53 54 55.
