Knowing when and where to fetch your social grant payment is very important for clients of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Sassa grant payments are usually made during the first week of every month.
Sassa has said that Sassa grants will be paid from the first working day from the second day of the month. But beneficiaries of the Disability Grant and Childrens' Grant will have to wait until after the Easter for their grants.
For April 2026, payments will be made as follows:
• Older Persons Grant: 2 April 2026
• Disability Grant: 7 April 2026
• Children’s Grants: 8 April 2026
SASSA Grant Increases From April 2026
Following the announcement made by the Minister of Finance during the 2026 Budget Speech, several social grants will increase from April 2026:
• Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant: Increase of R80 to R2 400
• War Veterans Grant: Increase of R80 to R2 420
• Foster Child Grant: Increase of R40 to R1 290
• Child Support Grant and Grant-In-Aid: Increase of R20 to R580
“SASSA reiterates its commitment to paying social grants to eligible beneficiaries at the right time and appeals to all beneficiaries who may have not received their grants on these specified dates to visit their nearest SASSA local office for assistance,” the agency said.
Even though Sassa grant payments start on specific days, beneficiaries don't need to fetch their Sassa grant payments on that specific day.
Sassa has reminded clients that they don’t have to collect their monthly Sassa grant payment on the designated day their Sassa grant is to be paid. This is because the money will remain in the benefices account until they choose to use it.
There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed.
Collections are not done at Sassa offices but can be done by heading to retail stores, such as Shoprite, Checkers, U-save, Pick ‘n Pay and Boxer as well as ATMs. Grants can also be paid using a bank account.
Sassa distributes more than 18 million permanent social support grants monthly. These Sassa grants ensure that vulnerable people can access basic goods and services.
Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the following include the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support grant, Foster Care Grant, Grant in Aid, War Veterans Grant, and the Care Dependency grant.
When the Covid-19 pandemic emerged, government introduced the Special Relief of Distress grant which sees beneficiaries receive R350 every month - later increased to R370. The grant is set to come to an end and will eventually transform into a form of Basic Income Grant.
