Unlike fixed grant payment dates for other types of social grants, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant traditionally does not have a set payment schedule. Instead, beneficiaries receive an SMS notification from Sassa when their SRD grant payment is approved and available.
However, a recent update from the agency has shed light on the processing timeline for SRD grant payments for August 2023. Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi explained that the delay in grant payments was due to a payment backlog caused by a prior glitch on their online system.
Moreover, Letsatsi pointed out that Sassa still uses the same verification process for each application determine whether beneficiaries still qualify for the, which also tends to take time.
There was also a delay because we did an assessment of the applicants. If you apply this month the following month we still have the same assessment to check if your conditions have not changed. So in this instance that's what happened.
The agency has also decided to resume publishing SRD grant payment schedule on its various online platform.
When August SRD Grants Will Be Paid
Sassa confirmed that SRD grant beneficiaries whose payments have been approved for the month of August can expect their payments to be processed between the 25th and 31st of August 2023. This means that approved applicants will receive their grant payments within this timeframe.

To ensure that beneficiaries stay informed about their payment status, Sassa encourages recipients to proactively monitor their SRD grant payments. This can be done by visiting the official Sassasrd website and following a few simple steps outlined below.

- Click on the option that reads 'Click here to check your Sassa status online.'
- Fill in the required fields with your ID number, first name, surname, and application reference number.
- After submitting your personal details, you'll be able to check the status of your SRD grant application.
If your application has been approved, you can proceed to access your grant payment using various options such as ATMs or the Cash Send option available at retail outlets like Shoprite, U-save, Pick n Pay, and Boxer stores.
Payment Processing Timeframe
It's important to note that once your SRD grant payment has been processed, it will take approximately two to three working days for the payment to reflect in your account.
Appealing a Rejected Application
